Sasha and Ariel Experience ... Writer's Block?

Ariel: Do you think we have writer's block?

Sasha: What? Why would I think that?

Ariel: Well, I mean, it's been so long since we blogged any experiences, I feel like maybe that means we have writer's block. Or blogger's block. Or maybe it's blogger's blogk in that case?

Sasha: Sometimes I just don't get you, Aers.

Ariel: What do you mean?

Sasha: I mean, come on. What is your defining characteristic?

Ariel: I'm ... nice?

Sasha: Besides that.

Ariel: I'm a little ditzy?

Sasha: How could it be your defining characteristic if you're only "a little" that way?

Ariel: Well I give up then. This is too much work.

Sasha: There it is! You're laaaazy.

Ariel: I mean ... okay, I'm kinda lazy, but I'm not that lazy! It's not my defining characteristic!

Sasha: Laaaazy.

Ariel: You don't have to say it with so many A's! I'm not ... that many A's worth of lazy!

Sasha: Oh, please, you were too lazy just now to even count them.

Ariel: Was not!

Sasha: Were too.

Ariel: Was not! Can we stop arguing about this please?

Sasha: What, are you tired of arguing about it?

Ariel: Grr!

Sasha: Really? Only two R's in that growl? And you didn't even capitalize them?

Ariel: OKAY! I'M LAZY!

Sasha: Calm down, sheesh. You're lazy in a very endearing way, Aers. I'm just trying to point out that if we haven't blogged together in a few months, there's an easy explanation sitting right there before you need to start looking at whether we have writer's block.

Ariel: That sounds like you're blaming it all on me.

Sasha: No, I'm just saying "we" don't have writer's block. You're just lazy and I've just been kinda kicking back and enjoying things lately. But they're same-old, same-old things, so no real reason to blog about experiencing them, you know?

Ariel: Well ... well, we've been experiencing the whole pandemic thing! That's not same-old, same-old.

Sasha: Uh, yeah it is. It was same-old, same-old by the second or third week. YAWN. Who would want to read about us experiencing being stuck in a house all the time?

Ariel: I dunno. Somebody. Maybe we're doing it different from how they're all doing it.

Sasha: Great! So there's your topic. Let's blog about experiencing the pandemic super-differently from how everybody else is experiencing it. Ready, set ... go!

Ariel: What, now? I'm worn out from all the arguing.

Sasha: See? L. A. Z. Y.

Ariel: Whatever. I'm going to bed.

Sasha: Gonna put some Z's in lay-Z?

Ariel: Or maybe I'm gonna do some same-old, same-old with somebody who's not calling me lazy all the time!

Sasha: You're going to go all the way to bed to do same-old, same-old with someone else when you've got a spicy little girlfriend right here? I could be saming your old or olding your same way quicker than you could get anybody else to. You wouldn't even have to leave the room.

Ariel: You're just trying to prove I'm too lazy to stick to my guns and show you what's what.

Sasha: Okay, have it your way. Enjoy going and finding one of our polys and asking them if they want to and getting them to the bed and taking off everybody's clothes and --

Ariel: Ha! You're trying to make that sound like too much work, but all it's doing is getting me hot! Total fail!

Sasha: Mm-hmm. That's what I was trying to do. Get you hot. Soooo hot. Burning for some same-old, same-old all over your same-old, same-old. Too bad it didn't work. It's sure got me all hot. I guess I'll just have to deal with that myself once you go in the other room.

Ariel: GRRR!

Sasha: Whoo, now that's a growl!

Ariel: I just want to say before we do anything that I'm NOT being lazy, you just got me too worked up!

Sasha: Sure Aers, you win. You're not being lazy at all. Now come on over here and show me how much energy you've got ... ya big block-head.

Sasha and Ariel Experience ... Freedom Rock!

Sasha: Okay, so this post will make more sense if everybody knows that we go crazy air-guitaring and air-drumming whenever we're out driving in the car and there's good music on.
Ariel: Hey, be careful calling us crazy! I mean, it's not like either of us is the one actually driving ... people will get the wrong idea if you say things like that.
Sasha: I don't think anyone is going to think we're the ones driving.
Ariel: They might! And then they'd be like, uh-oh, I don't want to get out on the road if those two crazy girls are air-guitaring behind the wheel!
Sasha: You're overthinking this.
Ariel: Well, you're the one who started off saying you wanted to make sure the post made sense to people.
Sasha: Just -- you know what? I'm just going to embed the video here and stop arguing, and if it doesn't make enough sense at least people will get to hear this great song.
Ariel: Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! You're going to play the song and not even tell them which one of us is the air-guitarer and which one is the air-drummer?
Sasha: They're going to know as soon as they hear the song.
Ariel: What? Why do you think that?
Sasha: Because the drums on this song are CRAZY.
Ariel: The guitaring is good too.
Sasha: Yeah, but the drums. Are. Crazy. So everyone who listens is going to go, "Oh, no wonder Sasha said they go crazy air-instrumenting to this song. She must be the one air-drumming, considering the drums are so crazy and Ariel didn't think it made sense to use the word crazy."
Ariel: Oh. I guess that's probably true.
Sasha: Duh. So here. One ... two ... three ... EMBED!!!

Ariel: Okay, now that we're not in the car and I was all self-conscious about not going too crazy air-guitaring ... yeah, you totally crazied the heck out of that drumming.
Sasha: (huff, puff) ... hang on ... let me ... (whoof) ... get my breath ... back ...
Ariel: You need a comb or something too. Your hair is like, all over the place.
Sasha: Worth it!
Ariel: So should we explain to people that we've been listening to crazy amounts of albums by this Frank Black guy for weeks whenever we're out in the car?
Sasha: You go ahead. I need to hydrate. And maybe take a nap!
Ariel: Wait! Where are you ... foo. Well, sorry folks, I don't want to try to cover this one all by myself! Maybe we'll come back later with a Sasha and Ariel Experience ... Frank Black and the Various Bands Frank Black Has Had! post. Nighties!

Ariel and Sasha Experience ... Scariest Darth Vader Ever!

Ariel: Big time spoiler warning right here, folks! If you don't like spoilers and haven't seen the Star Wars Rebels cartoon, get those spoiler blankets and put them over your heads -- no, wrap them around and around your heads, faces too!
Sasha: You really weren't happy about how hard it was to avoid spoilers last time, were you?
Ariel: That hasn't got anything to do with it.
Sasha: Uh-huh.
Ariel: No, really! This time around, we're not trying to convince people to watch the show by telling them how great it is without any spoilers. Either they took our advice and already watched The Clone Wars, in which case for sure they've probably already watched Rebels, or else they didn't take our advice and they're going to totally miss out by not watching either show on account of they don't know good advice when they hear it. Whichever one, there's no point in doing for Rebels what we did for The Clone Wars, so why bother?
Sasha: I'm not arguing.
Ariel: Plus, I don't want to talk about Rebels overall, I want to talk about Darth Vader in Rebels.
Sasha: Go on, I'm listening.
Ariel: He's SO SCARY!!!
Sasha: I mean, hasn't he always been scary?
Ariel: Not like this!
Sasha: I think I know what you're talking about, but maybe explain it some more for our readers.
Ariel: Okay, so like, first we saw him was in Episode Ai-Yai-Yai when Big Evil Space Politician gives him his Darth Vader name, but he still looks like Teen Hottie from the second movie, only with a scar and hoo, boy, so much hair!
Sasha: Hey, I just realized, Helm Solo from the last three movies is Teen Hottie's grand-kid, and he also has quite the head of long flowing locks.
Ariel: Kind of skipped a generation in Farmboy Luke, though.
Sasha: No, he got his grandpa's hair from his mom, Cinnabon-Hair Girl. Farmboy Luke is just his uncle.
Ariel: Oh, right ... hey! Stop that!
Sasha: Stop what? Seriously, why are you making that face at me?
Ariel: Because you're distracting me from the whole point of this post, which is how scary Rebels Darth Vader is!
Sasha: Fine. I'll just shut up and let you talk while I nod for the whole rest of the post.
Ariel: Well, you don't have to be a spoil-sport about it.
Sasha: No, but how is it my fault that you're distractable?
Ariel: Because you know I'm distractable, and you should know better than to start talking about distracting things, because then ... HEY! You're doing it AGAIN!
Sasha: Can you please go back to how scary you think Darth Vader is in Rebels?
Ariel: ...
Sasha: I apologize for distracting you, too. Go on. Any time now. Whenever you've got your breathing under control.
Ariel: So. I was saying ... omg, what was I saying? Wait, wait, I remember. Episode Ai-Yai-Yai, where at first he's Good-Hair Vader, which was not as scary because I was way in shock over him going to the Dark Side anyway, and even though he chopped up all those kids, at least he had good hair while he was doing it.
Sasha: You mean, good hair makes a bad guy less scary?
Ariel: Less scary than an inhuman robot-looking black mask with scuba-breathing sounds coming out of it! Which, we got to see a whole one scene of him in his scary outfit in that movie.
Sasha: Sure, but he showed up again in Rogue One: an Everybody-Dies Star Wars Story, and didn't you think he was pretty scary in that?
Ariel: I probably would have thought so if he hadn't said that weird asparagus line while he was choking Look-at-My-Cape Guy.
Sasha: Asparagus?
Ariel: You know, "Be careful not to choke on your asparagus, Look-at-My-Cape Guy."
Sasha: I'm pretty sure he said a totally different word there, not asparagus.
Ariel: No, I was listening really careful while I was in the kitchen popping more popcorn, and I totally heard him say don't choke on your asparagus. It really took all the evil menace cred out of him for the rest of the movie for me.
Sasha: Let's ... let's move past that, or you're going to end up complaining about me distracting you again.
Ariel: Thank you for being thoughtful about it! Anyway, then he shows up at the start of Episode Ivy, and he's for sure really bad-ass and intimidating, but you know, in kind of a chill way. He spends most of the movie standing around talking to people and then choking them. And like, Oldster Jesus tells Farmboy Luke stories about him that sound a little on the scary side, hunting down all the Jedi and whacking them and betraying and murdering Farmboy Luke's father ... but we know Oldster Jesus is playing kinda loosey-goosey with the truth there, and it's not like he gives any details.
Sasha: You are totally establishing that he could be scarier than he is in Episode Ivy.
Ariel: Right! I mean, he's an awesome super-cool villain and the meanest dude ever, especially after CGI Guy gets blown up with the Death Star, but ... more intimidating and ominous than scary.
Sasha: He got scarier in Empiresode V though, didn't he?
Ariel: Eh, sure, a little. He totally ruled in that movie, don't get me wrong. But once again, until the final fight with Farmboy Luke, it's really all talking and choking. And even in that fight, he does a lot of talking, like, just calmly sizing Luke up and saying, "Obi-Wan has taught you well," and "Seriously, did the Wise Old Gnome-Toad not warn you I could throw things with the Force like this?"
Sasha: He didn't say that.
Ariel: No, but by the time he got to the "I am your father" part, it was pretty obvious he wasn't even trying to kill Farmboy Luke, so how scary was that?
Sasha: You don't think the possibility of being tempted to join the Dark Side and become super-evil forever is scary?
Ariel: Well, when you put it that way, I guess. But come on, this is Farmboy Luke we're talking about. He couldn't evil his way out of a paper bag. Even in Re-Teddy-Bear of the Jedi when he's dressing all in black, I never bought that he would go bad. And in that movie, Darth Vader is already starting to waffle about being bad by the time Luke surrenders to him.
Sasha: I'm totally sold on this "Darth Vader's not so scary in the movies" angle now. Great job.
Ariel: BUT THEN!!!
Sasha: Hey! You can't jump-scare me like that!
Ariel: Why not? The whole point of this post is scariness.
Sasha: Darth Vader being scary, not my girlfriend being scary!
Ariel: Haha, Elle is going to make so much fun of you for jumping like that.
Sasha: No comment. And now who's distracting you?
Ariel: Oh, right. So here comes Star Wars: Rebels. And almost the whole first season (which is really really good!) is just about these new characters we never heard of before, with a couple of guest-star episodes where Lando and Shiny Butler-Bot and the Rolling Bleepster show up.
Sasha: Wasn't there one scene with Darth Vader in the very first episode?
Ariel: Yeah, but it's just him bossing some Inquisitor guy around, not even doing any choking. At the end of the season, though, Ahsoka Tanho shows up! And then Darth Vader takes over from his Inquisitor who got kind of killed, and pretty much as soon as he's there, the people who've been the big villains all season long are peeing their panties over having to deal with him.
Sasha: That's true. Throwing that power shift in there really upped the stakes for the good guys and also showed how scared most everybody on the Empire's side are of Vader.
Ariel: I know, right? And then at the start of season two, he's literally giving orders to terrorize the entire population of the planet they're on, like mercilessly. In the movies, we mostly see him dealing with his own troops and generals, or with the people fighting against him, but in Rebels we see him squeezing the whole planet! And you know the good guys will probably run into him at some point, but the way it happens ... yikes!
Sasha: I admit, that was pretty scary.
Ariel: The good guys are about to take off with some stolen fuel, and the two Jedi-type characters are like, "Do you feel that?" and "Oh, shit!" It's like he's radiating so much evil they know they're screwed before they even see him.
Sasha: Intense!
Ariel: And of course, I'm thinking, yeah, he's Darth Vader, so they're going to fight him and barely hold him off until they can get away in their ship, and I'm not expecting to be surprised by that -- only, then the fight starts and he literally plays with them like they're toys.
Sasha: Yeah, you can see he's not even taking them seriously, he just blocks all their lightsaber swipes and tosses them around like ping-pong balls.
Ariel: And then they drop a whole Imperial walker on him --
Sasha: Two walkers at once, wasn't it?
Ariel: Oh yeah! Wham! And Ka-Boom, the walkers catch fire! And the good guys are limping back to their ship like, "Whew, thank the Force we got out of that," ... and then the walkers start rising up and Vader's not even scratched.
Sasha: It's a kids' show, but I kinda thought they were going to shit themselves right then.
Ariel: I know I would have! The Jedi guys know they'd better get the heck out of there, and the ship's taking off, and all the other characters are blasting at Vader, and he's just calmly reflecting their blaster shots back to knock them out. And then they fly away and you think he's going to be all pissed at his troops like in some of the other movies, and instead he's just like, "Don't worry about it. They're not going anywhere."
Sasha: It was almost like he didn't even care whether he beat them right then. All that mattered was scaring the crap out of them.
Ariel: Exactly. We watched all seven of the movies he appeared in, and for sure, he's badder than bad in them. But this was the first time I was really like, "Holy moley, this is the dude who hunted down and killed all the remaining Jedi after Emperor Prunepatine won the Clone Wars."
Sasha: Wow, I wasn't even thinking about it that way, but you just described how I was feeling through that whole couple of episodes.
Ariel: And then at the end of the season, he's even scarier!
Sasha: Yeah, case closed. Do we need to go on and spoil that part too?
Ariel: I don't think so. It gives me the heebie-jeebies just thinking about it. I want to go watch something less scary now, in fact.
Sasha: Like what?
Ariel: Duh! One of the other Star Wars movies!
Sasha: Okay, I'm in!

Sasha and Ariel Experience ... Our Anniversary!

Sasha: Can you believe it's been a whole year?
Ariel: Yes!
Sasha: Wait, what? You're supposed to say something like, oh my gosh, no! It went by so fast!
Ariel: But ... I was paying attention? Like, every day was a whole other day with the four most greatest people in the world. So each and every one of those days was nutso awesome. How could that many awesome days pile up and me not notice?
Sasha: I dunno ... I mean, our polyfam still feels ... brand new to me. And fresh, and surprising.
Ariel: Me too! Only I don't know if I'd say "new" as much as "young." New is a little loosey-goosey as far as exactly how much time it means, but it is kinda supposed to be a short time. Young is totally different. It's a feeling ... and maybe even an attitude? A decision? But it's not about time, or else our boyfriend wouldn't seem so young, would he?
Sasha: He's no spring chicken, that's for sure.
Ariel: But things are still wonderful to him, and he still believes in things, and he thinks growing up is for the birds, right?
Sasha: Sure ...
Ariel: So young isn't about time. It's about ... not wearing down and crumbling. I know people do that, physically. But we don't have to do it in our hearts and souls! And being with the people I'm with ... well, that feels like it could keep me young forever.
Sasha: Wow. We're sure lucky you showed up around here, Ariel.
Ariel: If you say so. But I think it was just another decision we all made to stay young. And it's working!
Sasha: Yep, it definitely is. Come here and give me a hug, you! I just love you to pieces.
Ariel: Likewise! And forever, and forever!
Sasha and Ariel: MmmmmmMWAH! Goodnight everybody! Love each other!

Sasha and Ariel Experience ... The Clone Wars!

Sasha: Okay, the title of this post is sort of a fib, because we only watched the last 4 seasons of the show.
Ariel: We're going to go back and watch the other ones though, right?
Sasha: Probably! I just wanted to make sure we were being up-front about not seeing the whole thing.
Ariel: Well, our Very Significant Others did tell us all about the first three seasons though.
Sasha: Not the same as watching, though.
Ariel: But enough so we'd know who Ahsoka was!
Sasha: Yeah, super important!
Ariel: She is. The. BEST.
Sasha: The whole show is the best!
Ariel: Best ever.
Sasha: We may be not at our most objective right now.
Ariel: Um, duh! How could we be at our most objective with our minds COMPLETELY FREAKIN' BLOWN!
Sasha: Those last four episodes of season 7 were pretty amazing.
Ariel: I think you mean pretty FREAKIN' AMAZING!!!
Sasha: I would have said that -- but you're hogging the shift key.
Ariel: There's two of them! And a caps lock! That's a lame excuse.
Sasha: Okay, well, let's get to talking about the show how about?
Ariel: Spoiler warning first?
Sasha: No, because we're not going to spoil anything in this post because we're going to spend the whole post gushing about how great the show is in general so people who haven't watched it yet will go and watch it.
Ariel: Caps lock key is right there.
Sasha: I'll use it if I need it.
Ariel: IF???
Sasha: Fine, I'll use it when I need it.
Ariel: Uh-huh. "when"? Italics is a weak substitute for all caps.
Sasha: You want me to waste the caps lock key on emphasizing a word I'm not even applying to the show?
Ariel: Oh, no, that's a good point.
Sasha: Thanks. Now, where do we start?
Ariel: Season Four!
Sasha: Sure, that makes sense.
Ariel: So what did you think?
Sasha: Stop pointing at the caps lock key.
Ariel: I'll stop when you use it.
Sasha: Oh, brother. Whatever. I though season four was MOSTLY GOOD.
Ariel: What?!
Sasha: I wasn't as into the first few episodes as you were.
Ariel: I wish you'd told me that before I made you use the caps lock key.
Sasha: You have only yourself to blame.
Ariel: I'd argue about that, but we're supposed to be talking about the show. I thought season four was AWESOME!
Sasha: Look, if you keep using all caps on everything, how are people going to know how much MORE awesome the show gets in Season Five? And then EVEN MORE AWESOME in Season Six? And then --
Ariel: All right, all right, I get the point! Yeesh!
Sasha: I will say, as the season went on, I liked a lot of the episodes better. I especially liked some of the ones with the droids, and then that whole set of them that was just about the clones and that Jedi general I never heard of before.
Ariel: That's one of the things that makes this show the best show ever -- it's really almost a bunch of different shows. Some of them about Jedi, some of them about droids, some of them about clone troopers ...
Sasha: Even some of them about the bad guys!
Ariel: I know, right? Like, whole episodes that were all about the baddies.
Sasha: Sometimes more than one episode in a row.
Ariel: Like when cut-in-half guy came back and --
Sasha: Hey, you said we weren't doing spoilers.
Ariel: No I didn't. You said that.
Sasha: But I thought you agreed with it.
Ariel: Well I did, but that doesn't mean I was going to remember it!
Sasha: Just be more careful.
Ariel: Sure, fine, but I mean, season four was what, 8 years ago or something? Even I had read online that they brought cut-in-half guy back.
Sasha: So are we spoiling things or not?
Ariel: No, I guess not.
Sasha: Good.
Ariel: But I did think the way cut-in-half guy came back was ultra-super-cooler than the impression I got when somebody else spoiled it for me online.
Sasha: It was definitely a pretty cool episode.
Ariel: Like the whole season was!
Sasha: Well ...
Ariel: What? I thought we were trying to convince people to watch it! Are you going to get all critical like?
Sasha: No, it's just that a couple of episodes did this thing.
Ariel: A thing you're going to criticize.
Sasha: It was only a couple of episodes.
Ariel: Fine. What was the thing?
Sasha: So, somebody would come up with a plan at the start of the episode.
Ariel: Yeah, what's wrong with that?
Sasha: Nothing, except the plan would have some dumb flaw that would make it fail and get them in even bigger trouble.
Ariel: That's called drama, I think.
Sasha: Not when the plan didn't have to be so dumb. Anyway, that's not even the worst part.
Ariel: This is sounding more and more like criticizing.
Sasha: You're right. I guess I'll stop.
Ariel: Now? And leave me and everybody else hanging about what the worst part was?
Sasha: I thought you didn't want me to be critical.
Ariel: Well I don't, because the show is SO AWESOME, but you can't just make everybody curious about what you thought the worst part was and then not tell them!
Sasha: Are you going to complain more when I talk about the worst part?
Ariel: Maybe.
Sasha: ...
Ariel: Okay, no, I won't. But only if you go right from saying the worst part to saying something you liked so I don't have time to argue with you.
Sasha: Sure, if that will make you happy.
Ariel: How should I know if it will make me happy when I haven't heard what this worst part supposedly is?
Sasha: Ugh. You're so difficult sometimes.
Ariel: WOULD YOU JUST GET TO THE WORST PART ALREADY???
Sasha: Ow, my ears! The worst part is, later in the episode, they come up with a different plan to fix the mess they got themselves into with the initial dumb plan ... and the second plan is just as dumb!
Ariel: It sounds like you're complaining that they're being consistent.
Sasha: No, they're not, because the second dumb plan always works! That's the worst part. They do a dumb plan that doesn't work at the beginning of the episode because it's the beginning of the episode, then they do a different dumb plan that does work at the end of the episode because it's the end of the episode! There's no good reason the second plan should work any better than the first plan, other than, it's time to end the episode.
Ariel: Oh.
Sasha: Oh, what?
Ariel: I guess there were a couple of episodes where they did do that. *sniff*
Sasha: Are you starting to cry?
Ariel: Yes, because people are going to think it's a terrible show and they aren't going to watch because you said how dumb some of the episodes are and I agreed with you! It's the total opposite of what we're supposed to be doing with this post! And you didn't even hurry and say something good right after like you promised.
Sasha: I didn't say the whole episodes were dumb, just that some of the plans were dumb!
Ariel: Everyone's going to hate the show now! They'll never watch!
Sasha: They will if you'll stop being hysterical and we can get on with talking about the good parts of the show. Besides, being critical establishes our credibility. If people know we didn't just like everything about the show unquestioningly, they're more likely to believe us about the things we do like.
Ariel: If they're even reading anymore, instead of clicking away to something else once we started griping about the show.
Sasha: Well, anybody who is still reading probably really, really wants to hear about the show and how good it is, right? So we should get back to that.
Ariel: Okay, but can we go on to Season Five? I'm just too sad about how we ruined Season Four for everybody to keep talking about it.
Sasha: Oh, for heaven's sake, we didn't -- okay, okay, Season Five. What do you want to say about Season Five?
Ariel: Lots of Ahsoka!
Sasha: I agree that's a good thing ...
Ariel: It's a GREAT thing!
Sasha: Sure, yes, only if we're trying to convince people to watch the show, and they don't already know who Ahsoka is, knowing there's lots of her in this season won't really mean anything to them.
Ariel: Well then I'll tell them about the episode where she --
Sasha: Wait! Are you about to spoil something?
Ariel: Oops ... um ... okay, so I'll tell them about the incredible lightsaber fight she had with --
Sasha: Whoa! Do you really want to give away the fact that she fights that person?
Ariel: Well -- well --
Sasha: Look, how about this. You remember that episode where (whisper, whisper) showed up?
Ariel: Oh my gosh, yes. That was SO INTERESTING seeing him before he --
Sasha: Ariel, how long have we been doing this, and you haven't got the hang of talking about things without spoiling them?
Ariel: Sorry, we always put the spoiler blanket warning up! I don't have that much practice not spoiling things.
Sasha: You just have to be more general, like, say how in Season Five there are a lot of episodes that feature characters who have important roles either in later movies or in earlier ones. So you get to see a bigger part of their story than just watching the movies.
Ariel: Well, I can't say that because you just said it.
Sasha: But you can say something like that.
Ariel: I guess.
Sasha: Give it a try.
Ariel: Um. Something ... like ... oh, I know! Remember the Rogue One movie and the Solo movie and how they were individual stories on their own?
Sasha: Of course I do!
Ariel: And also, remember how there were gaps between a lot of the movies, where years passed and stuff and there were big old mysteries kind of left hanging that never got explained?
Sasha: Uh-huh.
Ariel: Well, somewhat in Season Four but a lot in Season Five and then a TON in Seasons Six and Seven, there are episodes that tie things together and let you see how some of the groups and organizations from one movie or set of movies fit in with another movie or set of movies. And they usually do it with a COOL-ASS exciting story where there's lots of great action and animation.
Sasha: There you go, that's the ticket.
Ariel: OH! And speaking of the animation, the longer the series goes on, the more TOTALLY KICK-BUTT it becomes. I mean, like, by the end of Season Seven there's scenes that put my jaw all the way on the floor, it dropped so hard.
Sasha: The music gets better and better too.
Ariel: I know, right? Just like the stories are weaving all these pieces from the 11 movies together, the soundtrack starts weaving in lots of musical themes from the movies too.
Sasha: Sometimes in really subtle ways, I thought.
Ariel: Right!
Sasha: And what about (whisper, whisper) and (whisper, whisper)?
Ariel: Ohmygosh, I thought both of them were sorta lame in the movies, but they were really fun together in that set of Season Six episodes!
Sasha: I mean, basically, when you add all the Clone Wars episodes together, it's five times as much Star Wars as in all the Star Wars movies we've watched. So there's just SO much more they can explore within the Star Wars universe.
Ariel: That really sums it up. You're so smart, Sash.
Sasha: Thanks, but you're smart too. Or else you wouldn't love Star Wars so much, right?
Ariel: Hmm. I'm not sure if maybe there's a flaw in that logic, but I'll take it.
Sasha: So does that wrap up most of what we wanted to say about the show?
Ariel: Almost. Except for ...
Sasha: Except for what?
Ariel: Except for OH MY GOD YOU PEOPLE THE CLONE WARS IS SO GOOD ESPECIALLY SEASON SEVEN ESPECIALLY THE LAST FOUR EPISODES OF SEASON SEVEN IT'S LIKE SOME OF THE ABSOLUTE BEST STAR WARS STUFF EVER AND YOU REALLY REALLY REALLY HAVE TO WATCH IT!
Sasha: You are such a caps hog.
Ariel: Sorry.
Sasha: But she's right, everybody. GO WATCH CLONE WARS!
Ariel: Yay! I'm proud of you, Sash.
Sasha: Thanks.
Ariel: Goodnight, everybody!
Sasha: G'night!

Ariel and Sasha Experience ... Acadamy Award-winning Filmmaking!

Sasha: Okay, here we go.
Ariel: Hi, everybody! We’re trying something different today.
Sasha: Usually, we tell people what we’re going to talk about and warn them to put their spoiler blankets over their heads if they don’t want it spoiled.
Ariel: But we had a brainstorm today!
Sasha: Right! What we’re going to do is just talk about a recent movie that won lots of awards, without saying what it is, and we'll be careful not to name character names or go too much in order, and that way maybe people can read the post all the way through and not have things spoiled.
Ariel: Since they don’t even know what movie we’re talking about!
Sasha: I’m still going to say I’m not sure this will work, though. It was mostly Ariel’s idea.
Ariel: Hey, you agreed! Don’t try to blame me!
Sasha: All I’m saying is, people who haven’t seen the movies they wanted to see from the Academy Awards for last year, you might want to go watch those first.
Ariel: (Sigh!) If you were going to say that, we might as well have just done our usual spoiler warning.
Sasha: Well ... I just want to be considerate. Don’t you?
Ariel: I guess.
Sasha: Good. Let’s get started, then. You have anything to get going with?
Ariel: Sure. First off, the poor guy goes through so much in this movie, just because his buddy picks him for this job.
Sasha: Yeah, pretty ironic how one friendly decision ends up leading to so much craziness and danger. And they were obviously really good friends. You have to wonder how different things might have turned out if the one guy had the other one to rely on through the whole movie.
Ariel: You think?
Sasha: Of course!
Ariel: Hmm. Maybe. I don’t think there was any way it would all turn out happy, though, even then.
Sasha: Well, no. I mean, duh, given the circumstances. The whole setup was awful. And not just for the good guys, for everybody. Like, how could anybody live in that one super-creepy bunker? I mean, for years?
Ariel: Oh my gosh. It was soooo creepy when they got to that part. Not like the main characters had it any better the way they lived, though, squooshed into that long narrow space just below ground level where the rainwater can just run straight in.
Sasha: True.
Ariel: What do you think the deal was with that stuff they had hanging from the ceiling?
Sasha: I did not want to find out. Yuck! That was probably one of the creepiest parts, because we never really found out.
Ariel: You think so? To me there was plenty of yuckier stuff, like that drunk vomiting guy ...
Sasha: Really? That’s the thing you pick out being gross?
Ariel: You didn’t think it would be awful having to deal with that at the end of your day?
Sasha: I mean ... I guess? But in the grand scheme of things ... with all the killing and the tension of whether that message was going to get through ...
Ariel: Well, you must have a higher tolerance for vomiting than I do. That was a pretty gross part for me. Plus, there really wasn’t any worry about the message until the end.
Sasha: That’s true I suppose.
Ariel: I admit there was lots of competition for what scene was the most, like, eww.
Sasha: No doubt.
Ariel: I got a really queasy feeling when, um, that one person fell down the stairs and their head made that cracking sound when they landed ...
Sasha: So scary! How would they even be able to keep going with a head injury like that?
Ariel: I wasn’t sure they would. I thought that might be the end of them right there.
Sasha: Phh. There was a lot of movie left at that point.
Ariel: I wasn’t paying attention to how much time was left. It just seemed really likely to me they were dead.
Sasha: Wow. You really were watching this from a morbid point of view, weren’t you?
Ariel: That’s the kind of movie it was, didn’t you think? Like, after ... oops! Almost said their name. After that other person got stabbed, and was bleeding and bleeding, and you knew they weren’t going to make it, but he was still trying to put pressure on the wound, and they were telling him to stop because it hurt so much ...
Sasha: We definitely agree on that one. It was awful.
Ariel: Even the stuff that you’d think would be good was a downer, like the guy’s medal.
Sasha: Yeah, I thought the writer made a pretty good point there about medals. They’re just empty symbols compared to stuff that really matters, like being able to go home for good.
Ariel: Uh-huh. SMH. Anyway, I guess my main deal with this movie was, what was the point?
Sasha: What was the point? That’s a weird question! I thought the whole point was obviously him being able to go back to his family.
Ariel: You think? It seemed pretty iffy to me. Like, just wishful thinking on the guy’s part after everything was over.
Sasha: Wow. I thought the end was pretty clear and so hopeful!
Ariel: Hopeful? Really?
Sasha: I can’t believe you didn’t see it. You’re usually even more optimistic than me, and I like to think I’m a glass-is-mostly-full person.
Ariel: Sheesh. This is crazy! Like, “are we even talking about the same movie” level of crazy.
Sasha: Wait a minute.
Ariel: What?
Sasha: ARE we even talking about the same movie?
Ariel: Of course, Parasite.
Sasha: No! The war movie, 1917!
Ariel: What! No, scroll back up, everything you said was about Parasite!
Sasha: No it wasn’t! Everything you said was ... (scrolling)
Sasha: Oh. Hahahahaha!
Ariel: Next time I guess we need to communicate better before we start.

Sasha and Ariel Experience ... What the Heck Happened to Styx???

Sasha: Okay, so like, this is going to be old news to everybody but us.
Ariel: Or even so old that it's new news to them, like, "Styx who? I never heard of them."
Sasha: But we saw something mythological like recently --
Ariel: I think it was that character Charon in Book Three of Kill Six Billion Demons.
Sasha: Which is a whole other experience we need to blog about, but yeah, I think you're right.
Ariel: And this Charon guy is supposed to ferry people across the River Styx, even though there's no river in the Kill Six Billion Demons version.
Sasha: However, our boyfriend specializes in being reminded of one thing by a different thing that he remembered because of some other different thing ...
Ariel: Ect, ect.
Sasha: Elle says that's etc., etc.
Ariel: I like ect, ect better because it sounds sort of like you're coughing up a hairball. As in, "Your list is going on too long and it's making me want to barf."
Sasha: Sheesh. I didn't think I was going on that long.
Ariel: No, I just think it's fun to put stuff like ect, ect in wherever it will fit.
Sasha: Like when your girlfriend is trying to make a point about your boyfriend so the readers will have enough background info to --
Ariel: Ect, ect.
Sasha: Grr.
Ariel: Anyway, blah-blah-blah, for some reason our boyfriend played us this Styx album, Equinox.
Sasha: And it was definitely good.
Ariel: Really good, with some songs poking up into the excellent range.
Sasha: A little cheesy sometimes ...
Ariel: But in a good way! And mostly rockin' the rest of the time.
Sasha: With really ripping guitars and terrific keyboards and actually I guess just really good instruments all around.
Ariel: Plus very good harmony singing. And a song called "Born for Adventure."
Sasha: That was a good one.
Ariel: "Midnight Ride" also.
Sasha: Yep. Anyway, we were listening in the car on the BF's iTunes, and when the album was over, it went straight to the next one on its list.
Ariel: Kilroy was Here.
Sasha: We should have listened to him when he tried to get to his phone and skip it.
Ariel: No, because you should never browse your iTunes while driving!
Sasha: But it is okay to turn things off.
Ariel: That would have been a good alternative.
Sasha: To be fair, we ought to say it's really not a terrible album or anything.
Ariel: I actually didn't mind most of it. It was very commercial and poppy. And with a different guitarist who was not as good as the guy on Equinox.
Sasha: Exponentially bigger cheese factor, though.
Ariel: Like, dairy farm level cheesiness.
Sasha: And even some of that was good, like the "Mister Roboto" song at the beginning and the part in the last song when he's singing like Elvis.
Ariel: We had to look up Elvis to see if it really sounded like him when the BF said that's why the singer was singing so differently.
Sasha: It was a really good imitation!
Ariel: But eventually Kilroy was Here was over, and we went on to the album he had originally wanted us to listen to next.
Sasha: What. The. Actual. Hell.
Ariel: Now, to be honest, we're only two and a half songs into this Styx Double-I album, so we are forming an opinion on only part of the information we probably ought to have.
Sasha: But it's like a whole different band.
Ariel: Even better than Equinox
Sasha: Super-terrific guitars all over the place.
Ariel: Songs that start off with pretty piano and end up with screaming guitar solos.
Sasha: Who goes from making this kind of music to making Kilroy was Here?
Ariel: Not the original lead guitarist, apparently.
Sasha: It's honestly nuts.
Ariel: And what's even worse is, this approach apparently worked for them.
Sasha: Sadly true. The BF says they were way more popular with their second lead guitarist than with the original guy.
Ariel: People have no taste.
Sasha: Anyway, we pulled into the driveway halfway through this freaky surreal song called "A Day," and when the music shut off, we just had to come in and express our shock.
Ariel: And astonishment.
Sasha: And bafflement.
Ariel: And ...
Sasha: What are you doing?
Ariel: Finding the thesaurus. Here ... stupefaction!
Sasha: Bewilderment.
Ariel: Discombombulation
Sasha: Befuddlement.
Ariel: Ect, ect.
Sasha: Oh, you did a typo there. It's "discombobulation."
Ariel: I like discombombulation better.
Sasha: Hmm. Maybe I do too.
Ariel: So now you know, people. Later Styx was super-slick and commercial and poppy.
Sasha: And earlier Styx kicked ass.
Ariel: We should go listen to the rest of the Double-I album now.
Sasha and Ariel: Bye, everybody!
